The Colombian composer and producer Kike Santander is considered a Hit Maker: a forger of Hits, confirmed by the Grammy’s and more than 25 of his songs have obtained the coveted Top Ten as seen in the lists of Latin music in Billboard Magazine, for the last 5 years.

Kike Santander has become one of the most important figures of the Latin music market. Born in Cali, Colombia in 1960, Kike began his music studies at an early age. Initially beginning by playing the accordion, Kike went on to learn the piano and guitar while later settling on the electric bass. His early music influences were derived from multiple genres including Colombian and South American Folklore, Bolero, Rock and American Pop, Classical Music and Jazz. By 1978 he was already playing Jazz professionally, throughout his hometown of Cali.

Although Kike continued to advance his musical studies, at the age of eighteen, he also enrolled at the Universidad del Valle del Cauca to begin his studies of medicine; he went on to graduate in 1985 with a degree in Medicine and Surgery. During this time, Kike vigorously continued his training in piano and began to expand his musical talent by developing arrangements and harmonies. This led him to develop and produce commercial jingles.

Kike’s love for music took precedence and as a result, he devoted his efforts towards the composition and production of music for commercial jingles. His work wowed the advertising community and earn Kike notoriety and recognition making him one of the most prolific writers of the genre in Colombia. Prior to 1993, Kike had written and produced well over 1500 jingles.

All in all, Kike’s arresting track record as a songwriter and producer can best be displayed in Billboard’s Hot Latin Tracks Chart. Kike has scored more than twenty-five Top 10 hits in this chart during the last five years. Plus, considering that he was recognized by BMI with fourteen song entries on their TOP 100 Most Air-Played Songs of the Year List , make him undoubtedly one of the hottest “Hit Makers” in the Latin music industry today with record sales exceeding 15 million units worldwide.
